OVERVIEW AND SCOPE

The ‘Crisis Management’ program holistically approaches the subject of crisis management, aiming to familiarize managers with the theoretical concepts/knowledge related to the identification, prevention and control of crisis situations, so that they can better understand their own role within the wider strategic planning of managing a crisis.

However, the program's focus lies on practical skills and the role of Leadership in crisis situations, such as

  • ensuring proactive team resilience,
  • recognizing and managing stress (both individual and group),

thereby creating conditions of 'Psychological Safety', a strong characteristic of resilient teams that harness their strengths for a creative transition to the 'next day'.

CONTENT AND FLOW

This holistic approach includes the following thematic sections:

  1. Understanding the concept of 'Crisis Management'
  • Definition of crisis management, types/characteristics, models related to crisis management processes
  • The new normal, the term 'Permacrisis', research evidence on business readiness
  • Strategic actions to shield a business, facing the management of a crisis
  • Participants are invited to enrich the topic by sharing corporate experiences, having previously being familiarized with the theories, models and related concepts widely used in crisis management. This will enable them to develop a 'crisis management plan', in which the theoretical background, considerations and multiple sources of knowledge will be integrated.
  1. The role of 'Psychological Safety' and Resilience, in crisis management
  • The role of the Leader in crisis management and the concept of Human Leadership
  • The importance of 'Psychological Safety' for the smooth functioning of a team even in times of crisis
  • The range of emotions that appear in times of crisis (confusion, fear, hope, empathy, feeling of danger) and the role of the manager
  • Making decisions under pressure – brief reference to tools and techniques
  • Individual and group resilience. Methods to maintaining sufficient reserves
  • Participants, using a specific theoretical 'resilience model', connect it with real-life examples to enable them to integrate it into their team’s professional daily routine, as a ‘tool’ to enhance resilience.
  1. Analysis and Evaluation of best practices in crisis management
  • Study of 'famous' crises and evaluation of the applied strategies and tactics
  • Identify the advantages and challenges of crisis management models
  • Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of a crisis response
  • The role of 'Communication' in times of crisis
  • Participants, through the study of real crises (case studies) and drawing from the knowledge they acquired in the previous modules, decode the crisis management reactions, aiming to a) highlight correct practices b) identify 'gaps' and propose corrective actions and c) select the lessons learned.

The overall objectives of the program are achieved through an interactive combination of theory and activities, therefore active participation is important and more than encouraged!
