Georgios Papageorgiou

Dr. Georgios Papageorgiou is an Associate Professor at Deree – The American College of Greece and lectures in the broader areas of tourism and hospitality management. He headed the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Sport for 8 years, and subsequently served as the Director of the International Honors Program for a further 3 years. Dr. Papageorgiou holds a BA in Tourism Business Administration (Technological Educational Institute of Athens), an MSc and PhD in Tourism Policy and Management (University of Birmingham), a PGCert in Academic Practice (University of Surrey), a PCert in Critical Thinking and Critical Reading (Universidad del Sagrado Coraçon, Puerto Rico), a PDip in Digital Marketing (Alba Graduate Business School), and a PDip in Transformational Coaching (Animas Centre for Coaching, UK). Before joining Deree in 2013, Dr Papageorgiou was a Lecturer in Tourism at the University of Surrey, and the Academic Dean at Alpine Center in Greece. He has contributed to consultancy and training projects in business planning and marketing and acted as expert evaluator in business plan competitions. Dr Papageorgiou has published in refereed journals and edited books, and is the co-editor of the volume ‘Lifelong Learning for Tourism: Concepts, Policy and Implementation’, published by Routledge. His experience focuses on academic quality assurance in the areas of tourism and hospitality, and his research interests include destination management and marketing, tourism education, and the relationship between tourism and popular culture – in particular literature and music.
