OVERVIEW AND SCOPE

In our era, the digitalisation process intensifies to be a world scale standard and the introduction of augmented and virtual reality and artificial intelligence technologies in almost all work environments, is an accomplished fact. This course explains how the tourism and hospitality sectors are bound to change through technological innovation to create enhanced guest experiences, enriched work environments and cost-effective operations as a means to strengthen brand awareness and competitiveness. The learning content introduces you to the concepts of Technology, Automation and Big Data, Augmented and Virtual Reality (VR/AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) avoiding a purely descriptive perspective to equip you instead, with an in-depth understanding of the reasons of their development and how they are used in practice.

We expect that completing the course, you will feel more familiarised with these technologies and that you will be able to explain and debate the advantages of these technologies in any discussion as well as embrace them at your workplace.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By completing the course, you will be able to:

  • explain the scope of the term ‘Technology’
  • provide solid arguments for the unstoppable development of Technology
  • describe the uses and the advantages of Automation & Big Data Management, AR/VR and AI
  • support and promote Technological Innovation in the Tourism and Hospitality sector with examples and your own ideas

 

PROGRAM INFORMATION

A range of teaching techniques and materials, appropriate to the course topics and objectives, will be used both synchronously and asynchronously. These include:

  • 4 videos created by the instructors (Introduction, Automation, VR-AI, Conclusion)
  • Text content that includes descriptive images, charts and videos
  • Use of articles that are relevant to the subject area presented
  • Exercises to practice your understanding
  • Questions to receive your ideas and understand your current experience with Technology
  • 2 live sessions on selected topics to discuss any questions you might have and dwell on the topic

Moreover, we also have a suggestion on how to divide the learning content so that you feel comfortable with the amount of the information and the exercises involved.

Week 1:

  • Introduction to Technology and
  • Automation, Big data and Robotics

Week 2:

  • Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality and
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • 2 live classes
