EMBA Students Experience Hands-On Learning in London’s Tech Scene

From June 19th to 21st, 2024, students from the Alba Executive MBA, embarked on an enlightening field trip to London.

This immersive three-day study tour focused on digital innovation and transformation, providing participants with firsthand exposure to groundbreaking advancements in technology and entrepreneurship.

The journey began with a visit to Better Space London, a collaboration between City, University of London, and Islington Council. Dr. Costas Andriopoulos, Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Bayes Business School, delivered an engaging lecture on innovation and disruption at startups. The session delved into how visionary leaders like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have revolutionized industries through relentless innovation

Between networking lunches and a tour at City Launch LAB, there was also a panel discussion featuring startup founders Cameron Tope of Polysurance, Cesare Fiala of Culture Hint and Hawaa Bundra of uunn, who shared insights on disrupting traditional industries.

Students also visited Level 39, where Dr. Antti Lyyra from the London School of Economics presented a comprehensive lecture on artificial intelligence (AI) and organizational change. The session explored the evolution of AI, its unique attributes, and its transformative impact on work systems and governance.

Industry experts shared their experiences with AI and robotics. Aditi Subbarao from Instabase discussed AI in process automation, while Dirk Gorissen from Wayve provided a product manager's perspective on AI applications.
The day concluded with a scenic Emirates Cable Car ride and a team dinner, fostering camaraderie and reflection on the day’s learnings.

The final segment of the trip focused on design thinking at the Design Museum. Dr. Pietro Micheli from Warwick Business School guided the students through the museum's permanent collection, followed by insightful lectures from Markus Hohl of BP and Barry Waddilove of Electrolux. These sessions emphasized the importance of design thinking in driving innovation and sustainability in business.




The field trip ended with free time for participants to explore London’s cultural offerings, including recommendations for evening theatre performances.
