The kick-off event for the Alba Shipping Alumni, held at the historic Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, was a resounding success. Esteemed alumni Nicholas Arachovas (Alba ’00), Helena Athoussaki (Alba ’06), Fotis Dalmyras (Alba ’22), Konstantinos Economopoulos (Alba ’18), Panos Mitrou (Alba ’11), and Konstantia Papaefthymiou (Alba ’07), shared their industry insights in an engaging panel discussion. The conversation was skillfully moderated by Dr. Ilias G. Bissias, a lecturer at Alba Graduate Business School, who teaches International Shipping Policy, Strategic Management in Shipping, and Corporate Communications. The event was introduced by Mr. Spyros Vougious, Alba Shipping Programs Director, and offered attendees invaluable perspectives on the dynamic world of shipping.

The panelists captivated the audience with a blend of personal anecdotes and professional expertise, showcasing how their education at Alba has been instrumental in navigating industry challenges. They reflected on their transformative experiences as Alba students and underscored the critical importance of the knowledge and skills they acquired during their studies. Their stories highlighted key moments from their maritime careers, providing practical insights that resonated with attendees.

A standout moment of the evening was Dr. Bissias’s introduction of WISTA International President, Elpi Petraki, who shared her views on the evolving role of women in the maritime industry. Her discussion shed light on the unique challenges and opportunities women face in shipping and emphasized ongoing efforts to promote gender equality within the sector.

Adding further depth to the discussion, Alba faculty members from the shipping program shared their perspectives on bridging theory and practice. They highlighted how Alba’s curriculum is tailored to equip students with practical skills directly applicable to their professional roles, reinforcing the value of their academic studies.

The ACG Office of Advancement - Alumni emphasized that this gathering is just the beginning of a series of planned events designed to foster connections, share knowledge, and strengthen the alumni community. The evening concluded with a delightful networking reception in the garden of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Historical Library, where alumni had the chance to reconnect and engage in further discussions.
