The OneFiveZero Festival, held from May 22-24, 2025, marked a momentous occasion in ACG’s history. It united students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni in a vibrant celebration of 150 years of academic excellence, tradition, and innovation. The festival offered an exceptional array of activities, showcasing an inspiring blend of vibrant performances and thought-provoking exhibitions that define the ACG community.
The festivities kicked off with the Student Symposium, where students across disciplines presented their innovative research and collaborative projects. The symposium featured a diverse array of activities, including live demonstrations, art installations, video screenings, and performances, highlighting the significant role of faculty mentorship in nurturing academic and creative growth. Notably, the Visual Arts Exhibition at the Arts Center Gallery exhibited a curated selection of student works in painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Visitors were able to engage directly with the artists, gaining insight into their creative processes and artistic visions.
Theater enthusiasts were treated to a unique experience as Deree’s theater department presented live productions and recorded theater videos. These performances captivated attendees with their rich storytelling, technical craftsmanship, and artistic expression. In addition, the oral presentations segment of the Student Symposium featured students competing in a Three-Minute Thesis (3MT)- style challenge, with students presenting complex ideas with clarity and creativity in just three minutes. The competition was intense, and the winners were announced at a reception later in the evening.
On Friday, May 23, the festival continued with a vibrant mix of club activities and community engagement. The Deree Student Association hosted a time capsule activity, inviting the ACG community to contribute messages for future generations to be opened in 50 years. Additionally, the Volunteer Club showcased a sustainability initiative, where participants planted their own pots – a fun and engaging way to contribute to ACG’s green legacy.
A highlight of the day was the performance organized by the Parents Fundraising Committee, which hosted a musical event entitled “Eivala – A Musical Journey from Smyrna to Athens.” This tribute blended traditional and contemporary elements, celebrating the cultural richness of the ACG community and offering a heartfelt reflection on the College’s enduring heritage.
Adding to the cultural vibrancy, the Chamber Music Concert at the Pierce Theater featured performances by the AENAON String Quartet and musicians from the Athens State Orchestra, alongside distinguished faculty members. The program, which included works by Chausson and Respighi, showcased the depth of musical talent within the ACG community.
On Saturday, May 24, the festival wrapped up with a celebration day dedicated to art, athletics, and community spirit. The ACG Track & Field hosted spirited soccer and basketball games, with Deree teams competing against the historic Panionios GS, while Pierce parents participated in their own friendly matches. The Annual Arts Festival exhibition continued and offered a powerful glimpse into student creativity and faculty collaboration.
In addition to athletic and artistic pursuits, the festival spotlighted ACG’s commitment to sustainability and well-being with the Forest Meditation and Tree Planting event held at the ACG Wellness Center. Participants had the opportunity to reflect in nature and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for ACG.
As the three-day event came to a close, the energy, enthusiasm, and creative spirit displayed during the festival reflected the essence of ACG: a place where tradition meets innovation, and where every member of our community plays a role in shaping a bright and exciting future. It was a fitting celebration of ACG’s rich history and a testament to the vibrant future that lies ahead.
