Captain Vassilis K. Konstantakopoulos received the first ALBA Business unusual Award established this year by ALBA Graduate Business School. The ceremony took place at Hotel Grande Bretagne, on Thursday, December 9; approximately 350 distinguished executives from various sectors of the business world attended.
The new initiative ‘Business unusual Award’ highlights important ALBA activities that have a positive impact on the Greek economy and society and, at the same time, honours exceptional individuals who could serve as role models for personal and professional behavior.
For the first award ALBA decided to focus on entrepreneurship and honour the self-made shipowner, Captain Vassilis K. Konstantakopoulos, a visionary entrepreneur who has demonstrated social responsibility and contributed greatly to the Greek society.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of ALBA, Mr. Nikos Ebeoglou justified ALBA’s initiative to grant entrepreneurship awards. Moreover, he referred to the exceptional performance of ALBA during the last 10 years at the annual European Business Plan of the Year Competition, as well as to the fact that a number of ALBA alumni have set up corporations capitalizing on the business plans distinguished at this competition.
The Dean, Professor Nickolaos G. Travlos, praised Captain Vassilis’ unmatched ethical behavior, philosophy and career, as well as his social giving, that set a role model for young people to follow. Professor Thanasis Fokas, the Nonlinear Mathematical Science Chair, Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge and Member of the Athens Academy, also spoke about Captain Vassilis’ life and work. Professor Fokas underlined the fact that Captain Vassilis obviously has the basic characteristics of a successful man, such as diligence, analytical skills, focus on quality, psychological strength and persistence. Yet, at the same time, he has a humanistic approach to life.
Captain Vassilis, thanked ALBA for honouring him with the first Business unusual Award and highlighted the difficult situation our country is facing today. He encouraged everyone to focus on helping each other, rather than assigning blame. Finally, he stressed the need for creating the conditions that will reinforce growth and prosperity in our country, so that we will be able to have smiling faces around us again, and for Greece to be worthy of its history and national heritage.”
