This event will feature a panel of esteemed graduates who have achieved significant success in the shipping industry. They will share their knowledge on current shipping matters and reflect on the insights, experiences, and profound influence their Alba education has had on their professional journeys.

Opening remarks

Spyros Vougious serves as the Director overseeing all Alba Shipping Programs, which has been running since 2013. His expertise lies in designing, managing, and executing academic programs in the shipping field, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has established strong collaborations with British and other foreign universities in this pursuit. Spyros possesses strong connections within the Greek shipping industry and holds the responsibility of overseeing the Shipping Business Advisory Committee at Alba. He is a graduate of the prestigious International Visitors Leadership Program sponsored by the US Department of State, for current and emerging foreign leaders. He holds an MSc in International Shipping & Transport from Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University and a BSc in Transport & Shipping from London Guildhall University.

Ilias G. Bissias is an Attorney at law, Editor in Chief of the award-winning Greek Shipping Magazine Naftika Chronika (published since 1931) and Executive Director of the educational platform Isalos.net. He is also currently the Director of Strategy and Policy of the Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers and Exports (HEMEXPO). Dr. Bissias holds a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Law from the University of London (LSE) and a PhD in Maritime Policy from the University of the Aegean. Since 2014 he is part time and adjunct lecturer at Alba Graduate Business School teaching International Shipping Policy, Strategic Management in Shipping and Corporate Communications. His research interests include International Shipping Policy, Maritime Education, EU Transport Law and Policy, Strategic Management in the Maritime Industry, Contemporary Maritime History and Corporate Communications.

 

Panelists

 

Nicholas Arachovas, Alba '00, is a seasoned senior executive with a specialization in financial management and a demonstrable track record with more than 20 years of experience in a diverse spectrum of industries. Currently he is at Seanvestments Sarl, Sole Shareholder, Director and Employee. Having developed quite advanced financial capabilities with exposure in various organizations both in terms of size and complexity, as well as between roles that were either focused on following closely the external markets or required internal efficiency with respect to systems and processes.  He holds an MBA from Alba and a bachelor's degree in Maritime Economics from the University of Piraeus.

 

Helena Athoussaki, Alba '06, is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Motor Oil Group in Greece. Awarded as the manager of the Year in 2022, Helena is presented with many years of experience in the Energy and Shipping sector, focusing on Decarbonization and Sustainable development. During her career, Helena held sustainability leadership positions at international corporations, undertaking strategic assignments for the private and public sectors related to Decarbonization, Sustainable Finance, and ESG integration. She is an active speaker, a visiting lecturer, and a participant in various think tanks and working groups. Helena holds an MBA from Alba, an M.A. from Middlesex University in the U.K., and completed several executive programs at Oxford Said Business School and London Business School. 

 

Fotis Dalmyras, Alba '22, is a Naval Architect with extensive working experience in Shipping Technical Management. Having started his career 24 years ago as a Junior Technical Superintendent, he gained insight into both technical management of existing ships and new building tanker projects.  In 2019, he joined Andriaki Shipping Co. Ltd as a Technical Director and was promoted to CEO in July 2021. He holds an MSc in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and a post-graduate MBA from Alba.  

 

Konstantinos Economopoulos, Alba '18, is a dedicated and results-driven accountant with over 20 years of experience in shipping accounting, including more than 10 years at a publicly traded shipping company listed on the NYSE. Currently, he serves as the CFO of Dorian LPG Management Corp, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dorian LPG Ltd, specializing in technical management services for the entire fleet of Dorian's vessels. He played a pivotal role in transforming the company from private to public status, primarily overseeing accounting and assisting in financial reporting for the company's IPO on the NYSE in 2015. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Deree, a Master's degree in Finance from the University of Manchester, and an Executive MBA from Alba.  

 

 

Panos Mitrou, Alba '11, has been with Lloyd's Register for 19 years and currently holds the position of Global Gas Segment Director, based in Athens. His primary focus is on the maritime gas supply chains, LNG, LPG and other gas commodities and fuels, as well as gas floating solutions, delivering an enhanced service portfolio to the shipping community. In the past, he has held various commercial and technology positions. Since 2012, he has been deeply involved in the setup and materialization of several funded projects related to alternative fuels and innovation in the maritime sector.  Panos holds a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer Diploma from NTUA and an MBA in Shipping from Alba. He is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. He is also a PhD candidate in Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde with a focus on optimizing the shipping transition pathway.  

 

 

Konstantia Papaefthymiou, Alba '07, is a maritime professional with 33 years of experience in public and privately-owned Shipping Companies. She graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1993 with a   Bachelor's in Political Science.  In 2007, she successfully completed her MBA in Shipping at Alba.  Since 1991, she has served in various capacities in Franser Shipping S.A. and Maritime Enterprises Management S.A., private dry bulk operators. She was part of the team that introduced the first-ever SPAC in shipping in 2004, which led to the acquisition and IPO of Navios Holdings, where she served as Chief Accountant. In 2007 she was appointed Chief Accounting Officer in OceanFreight Inc., a NASDAQ listed diversified Shipping Company. She was part of the team that led to the successful IPO of Dynagas LNG Partners LP in 2013. In 2015, along with the Dynagas team, she ran the first-ever LNG Pool.  Since 2011, she serves as Finance Manager in Prominence Maritime S.A., a privately held drybulk Operator.
