The American College of Greece announces that Deree, The American University of Greece was granted an establishment and operating license as a University Legal Entity on July 24, 2026, in accordance with Law 5094/2024.
The decision marks a defining milestone for The American College of Greece and a significant development for Greece’s academic landscape. It formally brings Deree’s American academic model into the country’s regulated university framework, expanding the options available to students seeking state-recognized, internationally oriented university education in Greece.
As part of The American College of Greece community, Alba Graduate Business School celebrates this important milestone and the opportunities it creates for the institution, its students, and the wider academic community.
The American College of Greece submitted its application on February 26, 2026, in collaboration with Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. The new University will preserve the academic rigor, international outlook, and student-centered philosophy that have long defined Deree.
Edward C. Wingenbach, PhD, President of The American College of Greece, stated:

This new chapter further strengthens our mission to empower young people to thrive within a dynamic, diverse, and internationally oriented learning environment while creating even greater opportunities for Greece’s standing as a global educational destination.”
At the heart of this new academic framework is ACG’s partnership with Roger Williams University, which supports the delivery of American university education within Greek legislation. Roger Williams University is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education, while its Mario J. Gabelli School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Through this partnership, students will be able to study in Greece and earn degrees awarded by an American university under the country’s regulatory framework for non-state higher education.

During its initial phase of operation, Deree, The American University of Greece U.L.E. will comprise the School of Business and Economics, the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the School of Science and Technology.
The three Schools have applied to offer 22 undergraduate degree programs and one graduate degree program across business, economics, communication, social sciences, technology, computing, the arts, and the humanities. The programs will combine interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, practical experience, research, innovation, and strong connections with the labor market.
Consistent with its non-profit mission, the University will also continue to invest in scholarships and financial assistance. Its establishment ensures continuity for current Deree students, who will complete their studies under their existing programs without interruption or modification.
The first cohort of Deree, The American University of Greece U.L.E. students will be welcomed in accordance with the new legislative framework, opening new pathways for students seeking a rigorous and globally connected university experience in Greece.
