The Alba Hub for Entrepreneurship and Development (AHEAD) cordially invites you to an open discussion with Brett Martin on the trends and opportunities of Venture Capital in the US. 

Brett Martin is co-Founder and Managing Partner of Charge Ventures, a pre-seed focused venture fund based in Brooklyn, New York. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School. A 2x founder and 3x investor, Brett has spent his entire career building or investing in technology startups, including stints as an EIR PrimaryVC (NYC-based seed stage fund with >$100MM AUM), Co-Founder Switchapp (mobile recruiting), Co-Founder Sonar (pioneering location-based social network), Director of Investments Appfund (NYC-based incubator and seed stage fund), and Vice (the multi-billion dollar media company). He began his career on Wall Street as an equity research analyst at Thomas Weisel Partners.

Beyond tech, Brett has published his Fulbright research in Harvard Business, founded an indie rock band, started a non-profit, and sailed 6,000 miles on a 30ft sailboat. He graduated from Dartmouth College and proudly hails from Ocean City, MD. 

Our guest speaker will be introduced by Dr. Thanos Papadimitriou. Thanos has joined SDA Bocconi as an SDA Professor in 2003 and more recently the New York University Stern School of Business as an Adjunct Professor of Information, Operations, and Management Sciences in 2017. He has also been teaching at ALBA as Visiting Faculty since 2005. Thanos specializes in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship. He has published articles and contributed book chapters in the areas of data inventory management, social media networks, illegitimate trade, innovation management, and other related topics. In addition to his academic experience, Thanos also has more than 20 years of field experience, first as a consultant with Cambridge Technology Partners and subsequently as the founder or co-founder of a number of successful US and EU-based companies, including AlphaDetail, mbriyo, giaola, and M2Cmedia. He has had 3 successful exits so far. He co-founded Charge Ventures together with Brett and Chris Habachy. Thanos received a B.Sc. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Computer Science, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California – Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in Operations and Technology Management from the UCLA Anderson School, the latter with the aid of an Alexander S. Onassis scholarship.
