CONTENT AND FLOW

The seminar will be organized across three inter-related topics, as follows:

  • Global investing trends since the 2008 crisis: The global markets have changed dramatically as a result of the 2008 financial crisis in the United States and the 2009 crisis in the Eurozone area. Using these crises’ resolution phase as the starting point, the seminar will trace the effects on investing practices, primarily the rise of passive portfolios and alternative asset classes. We will also cover areas such as algorithmic trading, high-frequency trading and the development of new financial products.
  • The international monetary system at the crossroads: This seminar will offer a review of recent international monetary systems, and will explain why the current arrangement is challenged. In the context of this seminar, we will address the advantages and disadvantages of digital currencies, as well as the role of financial sanctions and inflationary pressures.
  • The changing nature of financial risk management: This seminar will explain how a variety of global events in the last decade has changed the nature and focus of risk management across financial institutions. In particular, we will cover the influence of technology, national security and global warming, as well as the effect from the rise of the Fintech and Regtech sectors.
