Best Workplaces 2006: The 2006 Competition Has Already Started

Wednesday, 21/09/2005

After the success of the three previous annual competitions (organized by ALBA for the years 2003 and 2004 and by Great Place to Work Institute Hellas since 2005), ALBA will participate for second consecutive year as the scientific partner in the 'BEST WORKPLACES 2006' competition. It is worth mentioning that more than 50 Greek companies participated in each of the three previous competitions, while 6 out of the 10 Best Greek Workplaces were included in the 100 Best European Workplaces and the top Greek company was included in the 10 Best Workplaces in Europe.

All Greek companies can participate in the competition, regardless their legal status -private or public-, with the only condition being that they employ at least 50 individuals. By participating in this competition, the Greek companies will have the opportunity to survey their working environment and find out their employees' opinions about the working conditions they face every day.

The competition is based on a survey which is conducted internally to the participating companies with the intention to a) allow the employees to evaluate their workplace and b) give the human resources manager (or CEO) the opportunity to describe (and support with evidences) the company's human resources strategy and policies. In particular, a participating company is evaluated by the Trust Index – employees’ questionnaire (2/3 of the final score) and its Cultural Audit – top management questionnaire (1/3 of the final score). The Cultural Audit questionnaire provides information regarding the human resources strategies, policies and practices of each participating company. Moreover, supplementary material (e.g. video, employee handbooks, company newsletters, etc.) is welcomed in order to strengthen the understanding of the company's workplace culture and practices. The Trust Index questionnaire, answered by the employees is a brief opinion survey in which the employees respond regarding their workplace experience inside the company. In companies that have less than 250 employees, all of them will receive the questionnaire, while in companies with more than 250 employees a randomly selected group will be defined by ALBA to participate in the survey.

After the evaluation process is completed and the national top twenty list is formed, the winners will be announced (March) in ECONOMIST magazine (newspaper OIKONOMIKI KATHIMERINI) followed by a prestigious award ceremony.

Each participating company, regardless its place in the list, will receive a confidential summary indicating how their employees responded to the questions of the employee survey (Trust Index). The participating companies will also have the opportunity to receive a customized benchmark report comparing their results with other participants in Greece and Europe.
